Fibretron

Each year in the winter there is a retail extravaganza at Mystery Creek call Fibretron. It is an amalgam of commercial and small business who have connection to anything to do with fibre - fleece wool, dyes, knitting wool, fibre creating equipment like looms and spinning wheels. It is only on for one day and is so hugely attended that it is hard to make your way around in the hall. I often feel overwhelmed in these situations but I push through because there are often things there that are hard to find elsewhere and it gives me a better idea as to what is on the market. I was hoping to get a blending board or fleece but the price was very high so I came away without one. Instead I purchases some interesting fleece, 100% merino, a mix of young camel, silk, merino and alpaca and some corriedale fleece in four or five colours. All the fleeces wool was scoured and carded ready to do something with. Since my foray into wet felting, I was keen to get some more fleece so I could play around with it when I get time.

So out came my trusty old spinning wheel which hasn’t been out of its corner for a few years and away I went spinning. The muscle memory soon came back and I was away. When my children were young I spun, dyed and knitted all there woollens but that seems like a life time ago now. Now instead of aiming at even double knit wool I am trying to get a more textured approach for weaving on my little frame loom as I attempt to follow Kerri Hollingwoth (Take Two Arts) course. This is something I have been aiming toward for a while but have finally made to effort to do something toward it. I want to try needle felting as well. but that might need to wait till this course is done and my submission for its exhibition is in.
