The Making of Wandering Weaves

This piece was made as part of Take Two’s online course with Kerri Hollingsworth. I had been wanting to try some off loom weaving type creations for a while and this course helped me to do that. The base is the bark from some of our firewood. I wrapped chicken wire around it to create a base for the tufting and weaving.. The bark folded into a natural line and I was ready to proceed. I made some cordage to go around the top and used fibre from a palm tree to give a different texture at the top. I had made bound buttons with an old skirt find from the thrift store so this seemed a good project to utilise those in. Various textured yarns and dyed fleece made up the rest of the components. It was fun to do. I didn’t really plan anything - it just came together as I was assembling it. Below are some photos of the stages in development.
