Maori Facial Tattoo

Now we are home I can find a bit of time each day to work on my project. The parallels between Celtic and Maori cover a wide area including the use of facial markings - The Celts used Woad a blue dye whereas the Maori used a chisel and charcoal to create darker markings. I have used a very dark green thread to stitch the mokos of this sketch. I very seldom use black as I find it deadens the work but I might have to use some in this one for the hair and eyes. Parallel customs a world apart
