Facial tattoo parallel - Celts

Part of my Miringa te Kakara project will include parallels between Celts and Maori. Here I am working on facial tattoos and machine thread painting. The Celts tended to use woad dye for tattoos which wasn't as permanent as the Maori chisel and charcoal method. Woad is blue not black. My original sketch for this piece was created from an image of Queen Boadicea rallying her troops against the Romans. The whole head will be thread painted when I am done using threads to shade the face and hair. At the moment the constant movement of the thread painting helps me to relieve my stress with Rob's condition. He had surgery yesterday so now the long recovery begins and trips back and forth to Waikato for the next week for me
