Making the Composition

So once I had a number of light and dark prints and they had dried it is time to make them into an abstract composition balancing the tonal properties. This is where tearing comes into its own over cutting because once they are gel mediumed down the edges merge into one another. You need to be fairly happy with the composition before you start using gel because the tissue is too fragile once it is wet to move it around. Gel under the piece - I used a firm watercolour paper - first. Place the tissue print down and gel over the top. Start at one side and work your way across, trying to gel down any prints that are under others first.. This was my first composition
