Still running to catch my tail with property stuff so I thought I would showcase a few of my earlier quilts. This one is called "From Darwin with Love" and the bright fabrics were sent to me one Christmas by Kim who was living in Darwin. The colours in this quilt are the colours of the Northern Territory (Australia) but they were way out of my comfort zone in the quilting I was doing back then. To counter that I introduced the cream background and heavily quilted that - it would have been one of my first machine quilting exercises. Each time I look at this quilt I am reminded of the bright blue skies and the red red earth of outback Northern Territory. My first grandchild. Tahi was born there and Kim completed her first degree at the University of Darwin so it has special memories for me both as a family connection and as a quilt artist.
