Layered architecture - Haf Weighton

This is a photo of an old abandoned farmhouse in the Marlborough Sounds. I took this photo on our trip last October and I thought I would use this photo for a number of reasons. One I have a fascination with old buildings and the stages of age and decay. But also I used this photo in Haf's last workshop where I used heat transfer to place an exact image onto the substrate and then machine stitched it. I thought it would be interesting to work in series and use her more painterly approach to hand stitching this photo and then compare the two images. The fabric I have chosen has a tree woven into the fabric and I will try and use this to enhance the tree behind the house. I also thought this photo gives scope for adding textured yarns for the grass etc around the house.
