Close up of the quilting in the dark area
I decided to use a variegated thread to quilt this area and use a koru (spiral) motif. The koru is symbolic of growth and change which seemed appropriate and the random nature of the Korus in this piece emulates the chaos that has come from the separation. I particularly like the pinky bits that show up more now. These are from the original bleach discharge. I didn't check the fabric first and was surprised to find the underlying colour was pink not fawn or white as I had assumed it would be. It adds a warmth to the piece that would be missing if a more neutral tone had appeared.
