Emily Notham - Field of Flowers

This last week's textile.org challenge has been a textural challenge from Emily Notham. The filed of flowers that I created is made from scraps of lace and small cutout fabric shapes . Starting on a piece of vilene and couching down a strip of white fabric with six strands of embroidery cloth, a number small lacey shapes and cut out fabric fragments are stitched onto the length of the fabric. Using a spong the entire surface is then dab painted - I used grey and blue in the sky area and grey and green with a few touches of the blue at the bottom. When this is dry more colourful shapes and threads are added. The little pink flowers are a type of bead I picked up somewhere, the burgundy is narrow lace and the ecru flowers are actual lace. The cloud in the sky is sheep's fleece which i have yet to felt down but it was a fun technique with quick results that are quite pleasing
