Shearing Capital of the World
My home town, Te Kuiti. is regarded as the shearing capital of the world and in April we will have the NZ Shearing champions taking place. Although it is on its side you can see I have started a cheesecloth sculpture of a shearing in what is commonly called the long blow. I started with the easy bits - the wool on the shearing board and now I am working into the shearer. The blue cast has to do with the afternoon light in my studio and the fact that I am working on a glass table. Not too sure how he will come out but I am going to have pieces in two exhibitions for the Muster - the lead up to the Shearing Champs so thought this might be appropriate.
