Lest We Forget - Anzac Day

Today in NZ is Anzac Day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps). It is the day we celebrate those who gave their lives in war so that we could have the life we lead today. For the first time in over 100 years, Covid 19 has caused the cancellation of all the commemorative services. Instead at 6 00 am (it was dark here - not quite sunrise) individuals stood at their gateways in honour of those who went before. In 2015 on the centennial of the landing at Gallipoli where more than 50% of the New Zealand forces were either killed or wounded, I made this quilt. The flanders poppies are the symbol aof Anzac and the photographic inserts are Rob's Dad and my Dad who both served in WWII
