Spring Spying

There has been a friendly little black bird that has been around for quite a while. She is distinctive because of the white patch on her throat which is very unusual. She obviously didnt like herself because I had a mirror in the enclosed garden and she would spend hours pecking at her image in the mirror. This spring she has made a nest against the house, behind the virginia creeper outside the dining room window. We have watched her going backward and forward taking bits of grass and bits of mud, building her nest. The male blackbird is a glossy black with yellow beak and when I saw him go into the nest area I was worried something must have happened to her but here she is nestled on her bed keeping her eggs warm. It is so special to be able to observe this so close up without disturbing the occupant.
