If you follow this blog you will know I am morphing with my textile artwork into collage type processes. Rather than machine embroidering the whole thing, I am using fabric collage and then machine embroidering the details like the eyes, the face, the claws etc. This technique was the one that I learnt at Sophie Standing's class last August in Rotorua. These nifty little scissors let you trim back fabric in situ without cutting the fabric beneath. The flat "duck bill" protects the under fabric while the top fabric can be trimmed back to the seam line. They were horrendously expensive for such a little tool but I have found they are giving good service as I work on first tuatara and then sheltering from the rain.
