I weakened and bought this new book so now I am all keen to try making my own charcoal drawing sticks and paint pigments as well as many other interesting things that this book holds. It was sort of serendipity because this week on CST, Jane Dunnewold posted an article about a Justin Logan from Washington DC who searches along the highway for all sorts of things that might make good pigments for his art. I suppose this is almost a natural progression for me - having made the natural dyes and thickened print pastes so we will have to see how I get on - might be into next year before I can get much done. No 1 task is to find a tin with a secure lid to make charcoal sticks. I will have to go to the thrift store to see what I can find. There isn't much that comes in tins these days.
