Is That how they Got That Colour With Rust Dying

I have always got golds and browns when rust dying so imagine my surprise when I rust died with mordanted cotton and this was the result. I think the tannin must have changed the way the rust adheres to the fabric and I got this lovely greyish lavender colour. Just a heap on old rusty things wrapped in mordanted cotton and soaked in rusty water for a couple of days. I didn't even add vinegar but i did remember to wash the fabric in baking soda at the end
