Daffodil commitment Almost Complete
One of the staff members at 3 G Teak lost her husband to cancer three years ago. Each year in August she organisers a cancer fundraiser on daffodil day to raise funds for local cancer patients. She asked me if I would make her a piece of textile art to be raffled at the fundraiser so here it is almost finished - just needs to be framed now. It is an original drawing and design with the girl and vine thread sketched in 40 weight black cotton. I have thread painted the eyes, mouth and daffodils. My artist statement is something along the lines that cancer is the hidden killer that most of us have had visit someone in our lives. It is only through our eyes and our lips that our ongoing pain is revealed. The daffodils are a symbol of Spring, renewal and hope - hope that a cure will be found to battle the aggression of this multi-faceted disseasen. I have free machine quilted the background in a variegated thread. The whole piece is on hand dyed cotton in yellow and greens. When it is complete I will post a final picture on my quilts page.
