30 years in the making

This is a hand appliqued quilt that on of the squares has cross stitched 1989 so it has been in various stages for nearly 30 years. I began this NZ Baltimore quilt in a Block per month designed by Ngaire Brookes. I so enjoyed making the fantail and tui that I then designed two of my own bird blocks, a keruru (wood pigeon) and and a kea. And so began my love of NZ birds in my quilting work. It sat for a long time because I didnt feel confident in quilting it and Jinny Beyer had said that so many Baltimore type quilts were like mattress protectors with cross hatched quilting around the appliques. My saboteur latched onto that. After a spell I added the borders and then the hiatus began again. Then I learnt to Free machine quilt so I began on the task of quilting. It got sidelined again for another length of time and now I am determined to get this finished. Watch the blog for the finished item. Next week doesnt look quite as hectic as the last 10 days so I am hoping......
