another mini journal page

I am continuing to experiment with stamp and stitch. I love these woodblocks of bees and then I have used as single embroidery floss to back stitch the otheline. The back ground fabric was originally a disaster from an early gelli plate experiment but I think it works OK here. Part of my personal challenge with the mini journal is to use fabric that I wouldnt normally consider. The left hand strip with the shishas is another piece of newspaper fabric made at Kim's class with painted bondaweb and gold leaf. I cheated with this one - the shishas are tiny purchased ones but I do want to get back to trying with shisha's again using things like bottle caps. In my larger design work at the moment I have become interested in using recycled materials for a quilt challenge at the NZ symposium in October. I have enjoyed playing around and seeing what combinations of things I can put together - woven strips of denim, foil printed back of a couscous packet. chord from spirals of plastic groceries bags, old buttons. We will see where that goes
