The Keruru Quilt

I didn't realise when I changed my front page that this quilt was not in the gallery. This is the quilt that started me on a journey of thread painting. I attended a class with Dianne Fussil - the Pfaff instructor at Cottage Flair in Ngoataha. Dianne had designed a quilt with a number of keruru on it it but I changed the format to create strong diagonals and beaded flowers on the cabbage tree. Dianne shared so much with us in this class. The log that the keruru on the bottom right sits on is fibre textured fabric made with dis solvable media. This quilt really let me go to town on embellishment and texture. The free machine quilting includes a number of koru and the clematis and lianes coming from the top right makes it a uniquely NZ quilt. It is photographed in my garden which provided a nice setting for it
