He Tangata-nui o Te Kuiti

have the quilt together and now I need to quilt it.  I made a start using polyester batting but it bearded onto the back and as I want to submit this quilt to Quilt symposium I have unpicked the quilting and will start again with a wool batting.  The theme is People make a community.  It is for the heritage quilt section.  I have thread painted Sir Colin Meads and Sir David Fagan and through the centre have thread painted he matau representing Maori culture and tradition, pohutukawa representing NZ flora and fantails representing NZ Fauna.  The back ground is strips of various greens representing the myriad of greens in our natural landcape.  Onto the pieced strips I stenicled gold Koru - symbolic of growth and unfolding.   A preview of one of the thread paints is shown here.
