Australian Quilting Challenge 2017 - Memories of Kakadu
For the past few months I have been working on a quilt 90cm x 90cm for entering into the jury process for this years challenge. The theme is Made in Australia Australian flora and Fauna. The quilt has a pieced background, thread painted images from flora and fauna, thread sketched gumleaves and thousands of tiny figure 8 pebbles in free machine quilting. I cannot show the finished quilt at this stage but I have included some pictures of how the machine quilted images have been faced with wool batting and cotton to be trapunto applied to the background. Whether the quilt is juried into the exhibition or not will depend on how soon I can post a picture of the quilt. I have called the quilt Memories of Kakadu in honour of the 8 years Kim spent in Darwin and the wonderful memories of exploring Kakadu NationalPark when I visited her there.
